Mindfulness is synchronizing your body and mind in the present moment. It's knowing what you are doing while you are doing it.
Mindfulness is like a muscle in our bodies that we’ve exercised to some extent or we could not get dressed in the morning or function normally. Mindfulness can be exercised and strengthened in ways that further serve to fulfill us in our work and our lives.
Mindfulness captures a quality of consciousness that is characterized by clarity and vividness of current experience and functioning which is essential to providing quality care. This mindful state of consciousness stands in contrast to the ‘mindless’ - less awake states of habitual and automatic functioning that can become chronic for professionals in the business of providing care.
